Deirdre Barrett, Ph.D. is a professor of psychology at Harvard Medical School, Past President of IASD, and Editor-in-Chief of Dreaming: The Journal of the Association for the Study of Dreams. She has served as Program Chair of a number of IASD's annual conferences. Barrett uses dreams in her own self-exploration, in work with psychotherapy clients, and in psychology research. She has taught courses on dreams at American universities and lectured about them in Russia, Kuwait, Israel, England, Holland and more.
She has published articles in academic publications such as Dreaming and popular magazines such as Psychology Today on creative dreams, lucid dreaming, post traumatic dreams, and on her major interest - hypnotherapy.
She is the author of The Committee of Sleep: How Artists, Scientists, and Athletes Use their Dreams for Creative Problem Solving—and How You Can Too, Pandemic Dreams, Supernormal Stimuli: How Primal Urges Overran Their Evolutionary Purpose, and The Pregnant Man: And Other Cases from a Hypnotherapist's Couch. She has also edited the volume Trauma and Dreams. She is also a practicing artist.
