Professor Stanley Krippner is a psychologist, parapsychologist and author. His work has been pioneering in the field of consciousness studies, and emphasizes cross-cultural perspectives and non-ordinary experiences outside of mainstream paradigms.
He was the Alan Watts Professor of Psychology at Saybrook University from 1972 to 2019, and was previously director of the Dream Research Laboratory at Maimonides Medical Center (1964-1972) and director of the Child Study Center at Kent State University (1961-1964). He was an advisor to the Dream Network Journal from Issue 9.2 (1990) until the Journal ceased print publication in 2016. Currently, he is Affiliated Distinguished Faculty at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco and a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Science.
He has authored and co-authored many books in fields ranging from dreams and dream telepathy to personal mythology, shamanism, psychedelics, creativity and trauma. His publications include the well-known Personal Mythology: Using Ritual, Dreams, and Imagination to Discover Your Inner Story (1988) with David Feinstein, and other books on dreams including Extraordinary Dreams and How to Work with Them (2001) with Fariba Bogzaran and Andre Percia De Carvalho, Perchance to Dream: The Frontiers of Dream Psychology with Debbie Joffe Ellis. He is also the recipient of many awards, including the American Psychological Association's Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology (2002), which recognized among other things his service as president of the APA's humanistic psychology and psychological hypnosis divisions.
Krippner has travelled and lectured extensively around the world, and is a member of the editorial board for the Revista Argentina de Psicologia Paranormal, the advisory board for the St. Petersburg International School for Psychotherapy, Counseling, and Group Leadership, and the Prague-based Czech Unitaria.
Recently he has collaborated with Sidian Jones on the book Mythic Color, the first book of an upcoming Personal Mythologist’s Guide series that refreshes Krippner's ongoing exploration of personal mythology.
